Rev. 2 — The lowback chair July 2026
Drawn by hand (well — by AI hand) as SVG line art when the site left WordPress and got its own design. Why this drawing:
- A lowback, specifically. The most storied piece on the blog when this mark was drawn: the mini lowback stick chair Denis built for his daughter — the first of a series of chairs meant to grow with her. If one object on the site had earned the tab icon, it was this one.
- Line art, because the site is drawn. The design language here is the measured drawing — ink rules, plate frames, a title block — and the mark is drawn in the same ink.
- The sage seat. The one color this site allows itself, taken from the paint Denis actually brushed on that chair.
- It replaced Rev. 1's warm-cream palette on purpose: the whole still-life couldn't survive at 16 pixels, so the chair was pulled out of it and redrawn to fit the new identity.
Denis is a period furniture maker, not a chairmaker — a Queen Anne slant front desk and a Thomas Jefferson writing box are already on the docket. So this chair sits in the header the way a project sits on a bench: temporarily. When the work moves on, the mark will be redrawn, and this revision retires to this page.
Rev. 1 — The tool still-life October 2024
The original favicon, generated by Denis with DALL·E when the blog lived on WordPress. The prompt asked for something "simple and minimalistic, using woodworking or chair making themes" — and the result was this warm little plate: a chair at the center of its tools, saw and mallet and brush around it like a workshop laid out for the day.
It carried two ideas the site still keeps: the chair as the subject, and the mark as something generated and regenerated rather than commissioned once and embalmed. Its cream-and-brown palette didn't survive the redesign, but the still-life earned its place as the ancestor of everything in the header today.
